Geode Educational Information:

Amethyst points

Amethyst is a very well-known mineral and gemstone and is one of the most important variety of quartz. It is a symbol of strong relationships and courage, along with peace, temperance, serenity, and loyalty.

It is known for its purple coloring which ranges from light to dark purple and can be banded with purple and white lines. The color of amethyst changes based on the exposure to light, and when heated the color can darken or even transform into Citrine.

Amethyst also forms on the inside lining of Geodes.

Geodes

Geodes are rocks that are plain on the outside but can have beautiful crystals on the inside. Geodes are created in hollow areas of soil and are also formed in the bubbles of volcanic rock. After time has passed, dissolved minerals seep into the hollow rocks which harden into an outer shell which forms the geode. The minerals continue to form and grow to the center which can lead to Amethyst and other minerals being formed.

It can take millions of years for the space inside a geode to be filled, but many geodes remain hollow with crystals lining the inside edges. When a geode is completely filled with crystals it is known as a nodule.

Geodes can be found all around the world but especially in concentrated deserts and volcanic areas.

Depending on the crystal, geodes can be in a variety of colors, including purple Amethyst. Crystals have flat cleat surfaces which leads to reflecting lights and having a beautiful sparkle

Coconut geodes will contain colorless quartz, smoky quartz, agate, calcite or amethyst. A distinguishing feature of the geodes is an outer layer of dark brown calcite and a bright, almost powdery coating of weathered volcanic tuff.

Scepter

Scepter quartz crystals have a quartz crystal formed over another Quartz, or secondary mineral, forming a crown like shape.

On a typical Scepter, the younger tip is larger than the first tip, but it can be smaller which is called a reverse scepter.

When it comes to scepters, the color is concentrated along the edges of the stone. They can be found in a variety of colors including Amethyst. Amethyst grows as scepters on top of rock crystals.
